Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, designed to foster personal growth and a well-rounded education. The CAS component encourages students to develop a range of skills outside of the traditional academic curriculum through hands-on, experiential learning.
1. Creativity:
– Creativity involves engaging in activities that allow for artistic expression, innovation, or design thinking. Students are encouraged to explore areas such as music, art, drama, or even creative problem-solving and project planning. This could include tasks like creating a mural, composing music, starting a podcast, or organizing a school event.
– The goal is to challenge students to think outside the box, explore their talents, and develop skills like critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
2. Activity:
– Activity focuses on physical exertion, promoting health and well-being. It can involve sports, fitness, outdoor activities, or physical challenges such as hiking or team sports.
– The aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle, develop perseverance, teamwork, and a sense of personal achievement. Activities such as participating in a marathon, yoga sessions, or joining a sports team would fit into this category.
3. Service:
– Service emphasizes community engagement and voluntary work. Students participate in projects that benefit others, such as volunteering for a charity, tutoring younger students, or organizing a local clean-up drive.

CAS in Practice:
– The CAS component is designed to be a continuous process throughout the two years of the IB program. Students must engage in CAS projects and experiences regularly, balancing all three strands of Creativity, Activity, and Service.
