Trikona

Trikona, also known as Vitandgad, is the dominant hill fort in Maval in western India. It is located near Kamshet, around 60 km from Pune. The nearest village to the fort is Tikona-Peth. The 3500 ft high hill is pyramidal in shape, and the name Trikona means “triangular.” The fort is a popular trekking destination noted for its large doors, the temple of ‘Trimbakeshwar Mahadev,’ and water tanks.

Sinhagad Fort

Sinhagad, also known as Sinhgarh or Sinhgad, is a hill fortress located about 25 km southwest of Pune, India. Some information suggests the fort could have been built 2000 years ago, with caves and carvings in the Kaundinyeshwar temple as proof. It is a famous trekking destination for school children.

Visapur Fort

Visapur Fort is larger and at a higher elevation than its twin fort, Lohagad. Within the fort are caves, water cisterns, a decorated arch, and old houses. These roofless buildings surrounded by outer veranda walls are said to have once been government offices. The ruins of the large stone-built house are known as the Peshwa’s palace. In addition to a huge carving of Hanuman, there are also several temples dedicated to him scattered around the fort.

Duke's Nose

Duke's Nose is an excellent place to visit during sunrise or sunset, flaunting its real beauty during these times. It's also good for photography as it is surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys.

Kanheri Caves

The Kanheri Caves are a group of rock-cut monuments formed from a massive basalt outcrop in the forests of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, on the western outskirts of Mumbai.

Tungareshwar (Chinchoti)

Tungareshwar is one of the highest mountain plateaus in Vasai, featuring the temple of Lord Shiva. Students can trek to the top or opt for a jungle trek to the famous Chinchoti waterfalls. Both treks are enjoyable and offer a picturesque experience.

Rajmachi Fort

Rajmachi Fort is famous for trekking, offering exotic natural locations and historical significance. The fort is surrounded by a deep valley on three sides and a thickly wooded lush green forest on the other. It is accessible only by foot, making the journey to the fort exhilarating and picturesque. Located about 10 km from Lonavala, this fort likely belongs to the Yadav period and has two smaller forts attached to it, Shrivardhan and Manoranjan.

Adventure Hill, Khandala

Adventure Hill in Khandala offers unique and magnificent sights from the top, including a view of the Mumbai-Pune expressway and trains. The trek starts from Khandala station and takes 3-4 hours, leading to a simple temple. It's famous for rock climbing and valley crossing activities.

Matheran

Matheran is a popular trekking destination in the Sahyadri hills, covered with evergreen forests. The view of sunset and sunrise from Louisa Point is breathtaking, and other points like One Tree Hill Point, Hart Point, and Monkey Point offer panoramic views. Trekkers can start from Panvel or Neral, with the Neral to Matheran route being ideal for beginners. Hardcore trekkers can take the Dhudani route from Panvel.

Karnala Fort

Karnala Fort, also known as Funnel Hill, is a hill fort in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city. It is part of the Karnala Bird Sanctuary and was strategically important historically. The fort consists of two levels with a 125-feet high basalt pillar called Pandu’s tower at the center of the higher level. The fort has a water cistern that provides fresh water year-round, and from the top, one can see the forts of Prabalgad and Rajmachi.
